Hospital cover
What is hospital cover?
Hospital cover is an affordable way to access private health care, which gives you the power to choose your own hospital, use your preferred doctor or specialist, and nominate when you are treated.
What am I covered for?
HBA hospital insurance covers you for hospital treatment and in patient medical expenses, if you are admitted to any hospital within our network of Members First or Participating hospitals, or public hospitals in Australia.
If you elect to be treated at a Members First hospital, you will have the certainty of a single room or money back*!
For information on treatment at a non-participating hospital, please contact us.
Extras cover
What are extras?
Extras cover helps you with the cost of services not always covered by Medicare,
such as dental, optical, physiotherapy, chiropractic and natural therapies. Plus at our Members First
network of providers we have negotiated special agreements for HBA customers that give you higher benefits and better value.
Packaged cover
What is packaged cover?
Packaged cover is a type of cover that combines hospital and extras cover in
one convenient package. It covers you for the cost of hospital treatment
and medical services that you incur during admission to hospital, as well
as health services such as dental, chiropractic, physiotherapy, massage and psychology.

Overseas visitors cover
The health care system in Australia is regarded amongst the best, but the cost of treatment can be expensive. A hospital admission could result in a bill for thousands of dollars; and a visit to the dentist hundreds of dollars! And as an international visitor, you may not be eligible for cover with Medicare, Australia's public health care system.

Which level of private health insurance cover is suitable for my needs?
The level of private health cover you should take out will depend on your individual needs and means. We offer the following three levels of cover, with various different product options in each category:
Top cover – For comprehensive hospital and extras cover with maximum benefits and high protection. These cover options can be suited to people of all ages who want the highest level of private health cover.
Medium cover – Covers you for the services you think you are most likely to use or need. These cover options can be suited to young couples and families.
Basic cover – If you don't want to pay for things you don't need at this stage in your life, choose a basic cover. Suitable for people wanting the security of private health cover for the essentials, and those wanting to avoid the Medicare Levy Surcharge, these options can be suited to young singles, or families on a budget looking to protect their children.
