The Federal Government's Rebate is available to Australian citizens who are eligible for Medicare and have private health insurance. The rebate applies to both hospital and extras premiums and is not means tested. The rebate makes quality health care more affordable and accessible to all Australians.

5. Would you like to know how you may be impacted by the Medicare Levy Surcharge?

The 1% Medicare Levy Surcharge is a levy payable by high income earners who do not have private hospital insurance.
It affects single people with taxable incomes greater than $50,000 pa and families (with or without children) with combined taxable incomes greater than the family surcharge threshold. The family surcharge threshold is $100,000 pa plus an additional $1,500 pa for each additional dependent child after the first.
